Rainbows!
As you read in Monday's post Papaw Birdie is not doing very well. As you can imagine this has been very hard on Josh, as well as the rest of the Lipscomb's.
From Josh: Found out my Papaw Birdie wasn't doing very well and was being moved to Hospice care... moments later I see this beautiful rainbow (I haven't seen a rainbow in years). Funny how the world works. It made me smile and made me feel at peace with things. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Then yesterday Ramie (Josh's sister) also saw a rainbow....

Brace update!
Whoo hooo.... we only have two more weeks! I took Mackenzie to Duke today for her bi-weekly check-up and Dr. Fitch said it is looking good - he didn't even need to adjust it. Hopefully, all continues to go well and we'll be able to burn this sucker in two weeks. I can promise you... as soon as we get home from getting it off we will be soaking Mackenzie in a nice warm bath! These sponge baths just aren't cutting it after 4 weeks.

Trip to West by God Virginia!
Our trip to West Virginia was two-fold. We had the trip planned for several months to attend one of our good friends wedding. Two days before we left we found out Josh's Papaw Birdie was hospitalized and not doing well, at all. We were able to visit with him for just a few minutes in the hospital, as he was quite tired and out of it. I'm certain he knew we were there though - he even got to talk with Carter on the phone... he smiled! Today they decided to bring in Hospice to assure Papaw is not in any pain and to keep him comfortable. Unfortunately, the prognosis is not good - so, please take a moment to say a little prayer for The Lipscomb Family.
When we arrived on Thursday we went straight to Auntie Sue's house. We had a fantastic dinner (stuffed peppers), lovely wine along with beautiful converstaion! She is a special lady - I love her dearly.
On Friday we spent time at the hospital as well as at the nursing home visiting Mimi. She was in good spirits. We then met up with tons of Josh's friends and the weekend is a bit of a blur from there... kidding. Though, there was a lot of alcohol consumed by all.
All in all it was a nice weekend san kids... and camera - oops!!

Sleeping beauty
One of our biggest fears when we found out Mackenzie needed to be in a brace was how on earth are we going to swaddle her.... luckily, my dear friend Natasha had given me a Miracle Blanket -- best.thing.ever!! Josh was able to finagle it so we could still swaddle her, even with the brace. The first night she was in the brace was actually the first night she slept through the night. We have three weeks under our belt...
On average we get Mackenzie down for the night around 9ish and she will usually let me sleep until 7am. Yesterday, I actually had to wake her up so I could get her fed before Carter got up. I'm pretty sure it is time for us to remove the wedge, seems as though it is only in the way now!

7 weeks.
Mackenzie has been in this crazy world for 7 weeks now... it seems like yesterday we were planning our trip to the hospital. It has been quite the journey. Being a mommy of two is amazingly CRAZY! We really are adjusting nicely and it is surprisingly easier than I had anticipated it being. Please don't read this incorrectly, it is anything but EASY. I guess I had just envisioned it to be much worse!
We took Mackenzie to Duke yesterday for her two week brace check-up. Dr. Fitch adjusted it just a bit and told us to continue with what we are doing. It was a quick visit -- we go back again in two weeks for another check.
It is official - Mackenzie is smiling... a lot. She hears our voices and gives us one of the most adorable little grins. She especially likes the sound of her big brothers voice. He gets up in her face and says I'm your big brother Kenzie - I teach you everything and she just smiles and coo's. I'm trying to soak up these good sibling times, as I'm certain they will be short lived!
Couldn't catch a good smile... but, these are too cute not to post!

Unfortunately, Mackenzie's eye color is slowly changing. Her nice steel blue color is fading into brown. I was really hoping she would not get stuck with my brown eyes.... but, that is not going to be the case!
She is desperately trying to find her thumb - Carter seems to think she is trying to get milk out of her hand?!? Not exactly sure where that came from.....
In Carter's words Mackenzie's face is falling off. Meaning, it is still pealing. The acne seems to have cleared up - but, her skin is still pealing pretty bad around her eye brows, as well as in her ears. It is kinda gross but seems to be getting better every day.
Mackenzie continues to sleep through the night... going on two weeks now. I'm convinced it is because of the Miracle Blanket... it is indeed a miracle. Thanks Natasha!!
And this is just a prime example of multi tasking... what is a mom to do when her infant needs to eat and her toddler is tugging at her leg -- see for yourself!

Easter weekend w/ Mem & Pep
Mem & Pep arrived at our house around lunch time on Saturday. Carter was napping, so they got in a little Mackenzie time before Carter demanded their attention!!

We babysat sweet Reagan while Rob & Natasha took Brennan to see Mickey Live. It was a bit challenging having two infants in the house, but we managed. I don't know how people with twins do it. Feed one, change one, feed the other, change the other... full time job for sure! Fun none.the.less!
Once Carter woke up it was full steam ahead.... I'm pretty sure Mem & Pep played every sport possible with him. Of course Carter had to have some Fishy time with Pep. One thing I remember very clearly about growing up was my Dad singing the Fishy song. Well, Carter has taken to it too. Ever since he was a baby Pep has been singing it to him. I'm not even certain I know if it is a real song.... as far as I'm concerned my Daddy made it up especially for me!
The Sioss' joined in on some WVU ball watching. We all had a great time..... to bad the outcome of the game wasn't in our favor.

Good Friday!
We celebrated Easter with Grandma on Good Friday. Since Carter's school was opened we went ahead and sent him to play with his friends so Grandma could get a little quality time with Mackenzie. Carter thought it was super cool that Grandma joined me to pick him up early on Friday. He was super excited to see that Grandma had an Easter basket for him to open.
Grandma made Carter a truck blanket... he loves to snuggle with special blankets while he watches Noggin.
Grandma even got Mackenzie a sweet soft little bunny rabbit. I was shocked Carter handed it over, he loves his 'friends'.
